Leelanau County Commissioner Districts

Know who is making decisions for you.

The Board of Commissioners of Leelanau County is responsible for:

  • setting policy for the County;

  • adopting and monitoring an annual budget;

  • equalizing property tax assessments;

  • setting fees;

  • contracting for a yearly audit of all County funds;

  • and implementing the recommendations of its auditing firm to ensure the legal and efficient use of tax dollars.

The Board of Commissioners appoints other boards and commissions, adopts ordinances, buys land for county use and sells county-owned property, and enters into contracts and agreements on behalf of Leelanau County.

Regular meetings of the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners will be held each third Tuesday of the month, unless otherwise indicated, in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room at the Leelanau County Government Center.

State Government Representation

The House of Representatives consists of 110 members. Representatives are elected in even-numbered years to 2-year terms and are able to serve three terms total.

The Senate consists of 38 members. Senators are elected in even-numbered years to 4-year terms and are able to serve two terms total.

The United States is divided into 435 congressional districts, each with a population of about 710,000 individuals. Each district elects a representative to the U.S. House of Representatives for a two-year term.

Each state elects two senators to the United States Senate for staggered 6-year terms. Senators represent the entire state.
